Nintendo Switch dominates the Japanese market with a breathtaking display
Nintendo Switch dominated the retail game market in Japan last week in a way that has not been seen for more than 3 decades. In a surprising display of success, the 30 best-selling games last week are all Nintendo Switch titles. To put things in perspective, the last time it happened, it was in 1988, with the Nintendo Famicom.
Japan, despite its population or size, is the third largest video market in the world. Achieving success in Japan is a great success for any gaming society, let alone a pure domination on the market as Nintendo realized it.
Surprisingly, recent JRPGs such as Anime Style Nexus Scarlet, which was acclaimed by criticism in the West, or Neo: The World Ends with You, following the revolutionary DS game The World Ends with You, are not at the top of the ranking . graphic. Instead, Nintendo's classic clips such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are respectively in the 4th and 8th. In fact, fourteen of the thirty games - nearly half - are produced by Nintendo.
Surprisingly, the classic Minecraft reigns to master # 1. The capacity of Nintendo Switch to attract third-party developers can not be underestimated. The majority of the games of this table being non-exclusive in Nintendo, the importance of the mobility and ease of use of the switch is highlighted.
With the output of the next generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, it is surprising to see the relatively older Nintendo Switch always at the top. However, this does not condemn other consoles - Japanese players can simply prefer the mobile game experience provided by a switch.
